Reimagining 170 Years of Stamp Art
The US Postal Service has been around for over 170 years. As print media has evolved, the art on stamps — once coveted by collectors — has become less visible than ever. As part of an ongoing STEM initiative with the USPS, Capitol Interactive needed to find a way to showcase and convey the meaning behind stamp artwork in a way that resonated with a new generation.
Our Approach
We created five custom animated VR experiences that teleported viewers into the scenes depicted on newly released stamps, transforming static artwork into immersive worlds that audiences of all ages could explore.
Immersive Stamp Environments
Each of the five VR experiences was designed around a newly released stamp, with custom 3D environments and animations that brought the stamp's artwork to life in full scale.
Accessible to All Ages
The experiences were designed to be approachable for audiences of all ages and levels of technical comfort, ensuring broad engagement at the Great American Stamp Show.
STEM Education Integration
As part of the USPS STEM initiative, each experience wove educational content into the immersive environment, connecting stamp art to broader learning outcomes.
The Results
The Virtual Stamp Gallery became the most visited attraction at the USPS Great American Stamp Show booth.
Audiences of all ages were transported from the show floor into immersive worlds filled with learning experiences and art.
The project reinforced the USPS STEM initiative's mission to engage new generations with postal history and art.
Bringing Static Art to Life
By transforming two-dimensional stamp artwork into fully immersive VR environments, Capitol Interactive demonstrated that even the most traditional institutions can leverage emerging technology to engage new audiences and breathe new life into their collections.
